      Talk: The Formative Power of Art – Then and Now
Join us for a conversation between Ellen Egemose, curator at Brandts, and Louise Iuel-Brockdorff Albinus, owner of Valdemars Slot and the founder of our arts programme. The conversation will take its starting point in Jens Juel’s work as a portrait painter in the 18th century, discussing how art—both then and now—is a source of education, reflection, and social commentary.

      The School Ship DANMARK visits Valdemars Slot
We were thrilled to welcome trainees and crew from the School Ship DANMARK. We jumped at the chance to exchange maritime histories and to show the sailors around our contemporary art exhibitions.
 
        
      
      Hanne Lippard & Renato Grieco
Artist Hanne Lippard and Italian musician Renato Grieco will perform a new repertoire in the palace chapel at 3pm on Saturday 24 May. Their collaboration is a harmonic dialogue between the acoustic vocal tones of the viola da gamba and Lippard's distinctive spoken word. Characterised by a reduced, distilled approach to composition, this work represents a unique synthesis of melody and speech.
 
        
      
      Rong Bao performs with ‘The New Pontiff’
Coinciding with the launch of Valdemars Slot as a contemporary arts destination on Saturday 24 May, Chinese artist Rong Bao will transform the iconic tea pavilion into a theatre set. From 2pm, visitors will be asked to queue up and approach The New Pontiff, 2025 to take a bow before the inflated pope.
 
        
      
      Public Opening
Valdemars Slot launches as a unique destination for international contemporary art on Saturday 24 May 2025. This year, a presentation of significant paintings by Carl Gustaf Pilo (SE, 1711–1793) and Jens Juel (DK, 1745–1802) made specifically for the palace will take place alongside site-specific installations by international contemporary artists including Rong Bao (CN), Jiří Georg Dokoupil (CZ), Hanne Lippard (GB), and Pernille With Madsen (DK).
