Talk: The Formative Power of Art – Then and Now

Join us for a conversation between Ellen Egemose, curator at Brandts, and Louise Iuel-Brockdorff Albinus, owner of Valdemars Slot and the founder of our arts programme. The conversation will take its starting point in Jens Juel’s work as a portrait painter in the 18th century and discuss how art—both then and now—serves as education, reflection, and social commentary.

Ellen Egemose is among the leading forces behind the critically acclaimed exhibition Under the Skin, which showcases Jens Juel’s virtuosic works and places them in a contemporary context. The exhibition highlights Juel’s ability to both idealise and reveal his sitters—and opens up a timely discussion about art, identity, and power.

The event is a part of HORISONT Svendborg.

The talk is included with your entry at no extra cost, but spots are limited. To secure a spot, send an email to info@valdemarsslot.dk
