The Juel family

After the death of the admiral, his son and Councillor of State Knud Juel, inherited the estate. And after him his son, the King´s Chamberlain Colonel Niels Juel, became the owner. The Chamberlain/Colonel Niels Juel lived in the castle from 1723 until his death in 1766. He was a strict and determined man but also positive and far sighted. You can see the two gate lodges, the two stable blocks and the Tea Pavilion by the sea which he built. These buildings have retained their original exterior and look the same today as when they were built.

The present owner, Baron Iuel-Brockdorff, Master of the Royal Hunt and Chamberlain, took over his historic childhood home from his father in 1971 and lives in the castle with his wife and family.

Valdemars Slot has been open to the public since 1974. Guests are welcome in the Easter Holidays and daily from May 1st till October 1st and in the Autumn Holiday in October. You can spend a day enjoying a castle that is lived in by its owners where there are beautiful interiors full of historic details. And knowing that the present owner lives in the north wing close by, you almost feel like a personal guest of the Iuel-Brockdorff family.
